College Audition Prep (singing) – Grad and Undergrad Programs
Sunday, October 1
Seattle Voice Institute
300 S. Bennett St, Seattle, WA 98108
Instructors: Dr. Stacey Mastrian and Shana Pennington-Baird
This workshop will help you prepare for juried auditions, URTAs, college auditions and more. During this 3-hour workshop you’ll learn how to prepare for auditions, what to wear, how to “enter the room” and how to make the best impression. Each audition will also include a “self-tape audition” filmed at the Seattle Voice Institute for you to use for upcoming remote auditions.
Students will need to prepare 2 contrasting songs, approx. 16-32 bars of music. All styles accepted: classical, musical theatre, or contemporary.
Dr. Stacey Mastrian’s students are known for their solid vocal technique and for clear, natural communication. She has twenty-five years of experience as a much-lauded educator, has been a panelist for auditions at prestigious conservatories and universities, and frequently gives master classes, lectures, workshops, and performances across the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Mastrian has been a Fulbright fellow to Italy and has sung around the world at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NY, the Kennedy Center in DC, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
This one night workshop uses the Kodaly solfege system along with basic chordal theory to train your ear and voice. This helps you to recognize and reproduce notes, chords and intervals when singing and listening to music, and is a great first step toward improvising!

This 4 week class introduces breath control, vocal exercises and how to begin learning a song. The class will sing as a group, then offer each student a chance to sing a solo with our accompanist. This is a positive, supportive environment in which to explore using your voice! It’s a very safe place to learn!

4-week class, November 16- December 14, Thursdays.
Students will enhance their vocal potential by moving through a series of empowering voice/mind/body exercises aimed at deepening vocal relaxation and strength. This will be a physical, full-body approach to voice, providing students with both vocal exercises and a greater understanding of physiology. Through a mix of Fitzmaurice Voicework(c) and a variety of other approaches taught at universities across the country, this class will help students learn how to achieve greater vocal power, confidence, and ease.

Warming up really counts. And learning to do it well can make the difference between booking the job… and not. Work with Shana Pennington-Baird, recently back from studying with the Tuscany Project in Prague, and learn Roy Hart Theatre style physical and vocal warm ups. Follow that with some of the hardest tongue twisters imaginable. Work with Rod Saulsberry’s new book, Tongue Twisters and Vocal Warm-Ups with Other Vocal Care, and learn how to warm up by voice-over genre!
This workshop is not a singing warm up — it will work for teachers, voiceover artists, singers, narrators, and anyone who uses their voice every day and needs it to sound great!
$75, includes a copy of Rod Saulsberry’s Tongue Twisters and Vocal Warm-Ups with Other Vocal Care
